Structure and navigation

Each page on the PTSV website consists of five components:

Banner and ancillary navigation - appears on every page on the site, allowing easy navigation to key site functions, and the opportunity to do a quick search of the website.

Breadcrumb - appears on all pages (except the homepage), and shows a path back through the menu system to the current section homepage. You can use this to navigate back to higher level sections you have been to.

Left hand main navigation - always show the major sections of the site and expands to show subcategories. There are up to two levels of subnavigation displayed using different indentation.

The content section - to the right of the left hand side menu is the content section where the majority of information (including these paragraphs) is found. Some pages include links to related pages, websites and downloads in boxes on the right side of the page.

The footer - contains links to information such as the site's terms of use, privacy statement, copyright and disclaimer, site map, help page, home page and the date the page was last reviewed.

Finding information

Each of the documents on this site is fully text indexed. This means you can search for documents by typing in a word, phrase or string of words in to the search box located at the top right of each webpage.

You may also like to use the site map to find the information you require.

Printing webpages

The navigation areas (including the banner, left hand navigation and footer) are automatically removed when you print webpages. This allows the page's content to be printed correctly on A4 paper. It is recommended for best results that print options to display background colours are turned on.

Using the 'Print this page' button, located in the top right of the content area, produces the same results as using your browser's print command.

Browser compatibility

This website has been tested using Internet Explorer version 6.0. A web browser capable of rendering cascading style sheets is needed for optimal viewing. If you experience problems not related to your PC, communications line or Internet Service Provider, please contact us for assistance.

PDF files

Most documents on this site are presented as PDF files. To view them you will need a PDF viewer program installed on your computer.

Visit the Adobe website to download the free Adobe Reader from the Adobe website or talk to your IT service provider for assistance with the software.Get Adobe Reader icon and link to the Adobe website

Accessibility

We have not found solutions to all accessibility issues on this website. However, we have designed the site to cause as few problems as possible, using W3C accessibility guidelines. If you require any further information please contact us.

Accessibility features on the site include:
  • Use of alternative text on all images (except those used only for borders and spacing)
  • New browser windows only launched for links to external websites, mailing list forms, and online surveys
  • Use of introductions and/or meaningful titles for tables
  • Use of bulleted or numbered lists
  • Use of layout tables limited
  • Use of JavaScript limited
  • Use of upper case words limited
  • Use of PDF files have been limited as much as possible, however many documents on this site are in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). In order to view PDF files you need the Adobe Acrobat Reader which you can download free from the Adobe website. If you are in a workplace environment please consult with your IT people before attempting to install new software. The Adobe Accessibility Resource Center provides tools and information to help make Adobe PDF files accessible to users with visual disabilities. It contains accessibility tools which convert Adobe PDF documents into HTML or ASCII text which can then be read by a number of common screen reading programs that synthesise text as audible speech. Where PDF files exist, they are described in their links.
  • Use of Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) have been kept to a strict minimum on this site and are used only where content is aimed at a particular audience. If you cannot access these files with your current software, it is possible to download free viewers from the Microsoft Office Downloads page. If you are in a workplace environment please consult with your IT people before attempting to install new software.
