Maintenance management system

On this page: Review of the system

Regulation 9(p) of the Public Transport Competition Regulations 1999 (Vic) requires that:

An accredited person must establish and maintain a maintenance management system for all public passenger vehicles operated by the person in the form and manner approved by the Safety Director.

The current system being used is based on the Quality Assured Maintenance System (QAMS), a voluntary scheme for bus maintenance established by VicRoads in 1992.

Review of the system

PTSV gave an undertaking that a review of the maintenance management system would be undertaken to ensure its ongoing currency and validity.

PTSV has adopted an outcomes-based methodology for this review where the regulator sets a required outcome and accredited bus operators comply using methods appropriate for their operations.

The current maintenance management system is in its final stages of an extensive review between PTSV and the Victorian bus industry.

PTSV will continue to work with industry to develop guidance material for bus maintenance personnel. More information will be published when it becomes available.
